DIT1-13 Athlone IT1-5:DIT'S MARK Vaughan was top scorer in yesterday's clash against Athlone IT at Grangegorman. However, his four points were eclipsed by the display in attack of Paul Brogan. Two scores from Vaughan each side of a Kevin McManamon point were followed by another effort from Martin Reilly after quarter of an hour.
Despite points from Brian Smith, Trevor Phelan and Alan Lynam for Athlone, Brogan’s combative play yielded two points for a 0-8 to 0-4 lead at the interval.
After Reilly pointed on the restart, McManamon netted in the 33rd minute to bring DIT’s lead to eight points. On 53 minutes Athlone’s Ray Gilligan goaled but DIT sealed the win with scores from Padraig O’Neill and Vaughan.
