Taffarel - Goalkeeper: 5. The hero of Brazil's semi-final win did not repeat himself even he if was not at fault for any of the three goals.

Cafu - Right Back: 5. One of the few positive notes in the first half, did little in the second, even setting up a great chance for Guivarc'h, who duly missed it.

Junior Baiano - Central Defence: 4. Has consistently looked suspect in defence and did so again last night. Two howlers let in, first, Petit and then Guivarc'h in first half alone.

Aldair - Central Defence: 6. Did his best to compensate for Junior Baiano's shortcomings beside him but even his class was not enough.

Roberto Carlos - Left Back: 4 1/2. Faced with Thuram, his offensive incursions and overall impact were much almost nil.

Leonardo - Right Midfield: 5 1/2 . Did his best to create things down right wing with Cafu before being substituted at half time by Denilson.

Cesar Sampaio - Central Midfield: 6 1/2. Another impressive performance, strong on work rate in attempt, along with Dunga, to hold together the leaking Brazilian midfield.

Dunga - Central Midfield: 6 1/2 . Captain's performance and not his fault if Brazil lost - See Cesar Sampaio.

Rivaldo - Left Midfield: 5 1/2. He had accustomed us to better. Shut out by excellent French defence.

Ronaldo - Attack: 5 1/2. Saw little of the ball, did even less with it, looked a tired player and was the game's single biggest disappointment.

Bebeto - Attack: 4. Did even less than Ronaldo. Only coach Zagallo can explain why he started instead of Denilson.

Denilson - Attack: 5. Perhaps he overdid the fancy footwork, but a player of his attacking class should have started, rather than coming on at half time.

Edmundo - Attack: No vote, brought on too late, impossible to judge.
