Bray Wanderers 2 Galway United 0:BRAY EASED to a third win on the spin to maintain their best ever start to a league campaign as they moved to second in the table, a point behind leaders Shamrock Rovers, at the Carlisle Grounds last night.

Galway’s dismal failure to defend set pieces saw them concede both goals inside the opening nine minutes. Thereafter they were never in the match.

Both goals stemmed from Bray skipper Gary Dempsey’s corners, the first on three minutes stabbed home by Conor Murphy after Dane Massey touched it on with his head.

A terrific tackle by Stephen Walsh on John Mulroy led to Bray’s second corner. But none of Walsh’s fellow defenders attacked Dempsey’s delivery and Bray stopper Derek Prendergast bundled the ball home at the far post.

Jake Kelly got two stabs at another Dempsey ball into the area on 38 minutes, the second one bouncing just over the top of beleaguered Greg Fleming’s goal.

With Galway unable to muster much, Bray were happy to sit back and play on the counterattack throughout the second half.

They came close to extending their lead on 75 minutes when sub Shane O’Neill forced a good stop from Fleming while Jake Kelly hit a post in stoppage time.

In between, Shaun Kelly registered Galway’s only effort of goal when bringing the save of the game from Darren Quigley.
