BRAY WANDERERS finally uncorked the champagne as they clinched promotion and the First Division title with a rather subdued performance in playing out a 1-1 draw with Limerick at the Carlisle Grounds yesterday.
The team of 96 emulates the side of to years ago who won the title in the First Division's inaugural season. Pat Devlin, their current manager, was in charge then, too, while three of yesterday's team - Anthony McKeever, Martin Nugent and Steven Craig - were also involved.
Nugent's volleyed goal was negated by a Garret Ryan goal yesterday. Bray won't have worried too much about the performance.
In yesterday's other game, Home Farm Everton kept their tenuous play off hopes alive thanks to a hat trick from Derek Gough in a 3-1 defeat of Waterford United at Whitehall. Pascal Keane shot Waterford in front after 14 minutes. Gough scored twice inside five minutes just after the half hour, the second a penalty, to give HF-Everton a half time lead. He completed his hat-trick 20 minutes from time.
