ONE moment of madness from goalkeeper Pat Trehy consigned Bray Wanderers to their third consecutive home defeat of the season in the National League as Finn Harps continued their ascent up the Premier Division at the Carlisle Grounds yesterday.
Trehy was left with little to do in a one sided second half, but with just seconds left on the clock he came out of his goal to challenge Finn Harps youngster Paddy McGranaghan following a through ball from substitute Alan Doherty.
McGranaghan, however, proved too quick, and having rounded Trehy turned the ball in despite the best efforts of retreating Bray defender Jody Lynch.
Bray manager, Pat Devlin was understandably annoyed at Trehy's error which increases Bray's relegation fears.
"It was a silly goal to give away in all honesty. I don't know what Pat was thinking off. I thought it was important not concede a score and for 90 minutes we achieved that. I didn't have to say anything to the players afterwards. They were gutted."
Bray had outclassed their opponents for large sections of the game.
Finn Harps' ploy of putting as many players as possible behind the hall and hoping to catch Bray on the break in the end yielded dividends, but the tactic will not win them any friends.
However, Bray had ample opportunities to put their opponents away in the second period but were unable to find a way past Finn Harps' goalkeeper, David Platt.
