"HE'S as nice a horse as ever I put a saddle on," said trainer Pat Flynn after Gan Saru had got up in the last strides to win yesterday's featured Night Guard Alarms Galway Handicap under top weight from the High In the Clouds, who was receiving 19lb.

Flynn admitted to being nervous of the fast ground, but the hat trick scoring Gan Saru, who had won on contrasting going at Tralee, handled it without a bother. Always prominent, he arrived with an impeccably timed challenge under Niall McCullagh to collar High In The Clouds and Rose Of Rapture and win by three parts of a length.

This three year old half brother by Never So Bold to Aries Girl and a Group Two winner is owned by Dungarvan, Co Waterford, businessman John Flynn - no relation to the trainer of the Kytlers Inn, Kilkenny. The long term plan is to prepare Gan Saru for the Triumph Hurdle, a race John Flynn's father Niall won 20 years ago with the Adrian Maxwell trained Meladon.

Champion apprentice Pat Smullen injured his right foot on emerging from the stalls on Wesperada and was sent for xrays. He forfeited his remaining rides.

Pat Flynn completed a 26 to double with By Charlie Allen, who snatched a short head win from Ma Barnicle in the Derrinstown Apprentice Maiden. Ridden by the experienced Gerry Moylan, the winner finished fast on the far rails.

Dermot Weld saddled Token Gesture to win the Castlegar Maiden. Making most of the running under Michael Kinane, this Moyglare Stud bred and owned Alzao filly raced clear before the home turn to beat Iolanta with.

Weld plans to send Definite Article to Toronto for the Grade One, one million dollar Canadian International at Woodbine on September 29th. The Moyglare Stud's colt finished fourth behind Pilsudski in a Group One at Baden Baden on his latest outing, but according to his handler, did not get the run of the race. Beaten only a short head in last year's Irish Derby, Definite Article won the Group Two Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh in May.

With the prospects of firm going at Leopardstown next Saturday, it is becoming increasingly likely that Weld will run the Moyglare Stud's Irish Oaks winner, Dance Design, in the Irish Champion Stakes rather than the Irish Derby winner, Zagreb.

Meanwhile, Logstown made a procession of the Kenny Development Group Maiden Hurdle, making all the running to land a gamble by 15 lengths.
