Jack Lester was guilty of one of the misses of the season as Bolton rode their luck to get past Nottingham Forest and become the first team to book their place in the last 16 of the English League Cup.
Bolton may be causing Premiership heads to turn this season but all that stood between themselves and their Division One opponents was Rod Wallace's third-minute strike.
With five minutes to go substitute Marlon Harewood crossed from the right and as the ball rolled across the six yard area Lester rushed in and somehow scythed it wide.
So the win was down to Wallace, who pounced to score his second goal for his new club after only three minutes when Forest's defence were caught napping and Bruno N'Gotty headed Bo Hansen's free-kick across the face of goal.
