Bohemians grab late equaliser

Bohemians scored a late equaliser to salvage a point in a dramatic four-goal thriller at the Showgrounds on Saturday night

Bohemians scored a late equaliser to salvage a point in a dramatic four-goal thriller at the Showgrounds on Saturday night. Having enjoyed the greater share of possession, Bohemians found themselves trailing by 2-1 with just minutes remaining.

However, 19-year-old former schoolboy international Graham Lawlor, who had been on the field for only six minutes, came to the rescue with a great header from Tony O'Connor's cross in the 83rd minute.

Bohemians showed their intentions in front of a large attendance as early as the second minute when a free-kick from Joe Hanrahan rattled the crossbar. Hanrahan was once again involved in the eighth minute when his in-swinging free-kick to the far post was nodded home by Peter Hanrahan.

Sligo gradually got into their stride and got a deserved equaliser in injury-time at the end of the first half when Steve Jones headed home from Padraig Moran's cross.

Both sides squandered chances in a free-flowing second half before Sligo player manager Nicky Reid gave Sligo the lead 10 minutes from time with a spectacular goal direct from a 25-yard freekick, but Bohemians hit back within three minutes when Lawlor popped up for a deserved equaliser.
