KERRY and Cork strolled to easy wins over Limerick and Waterford respectively in the McGrath Cup football competition yesterday. In Newcastlewest Kerry won by 1-15 to 0-6 and, in Pairc Ui Rinn, Cork romped home by 0-19 to 1-4.

The Newcastlewest game was only a minute old when Limerick goalkeeper Eamonn Scollard had to make a fine save from John Crowley but Kerry kept up the pressure and they led by 0-7 to 0-3 at half time.

Limerick created a couple of scoring opportunities but had to rely on two points from frees and one from play by Patsy Keyes to keep in touch. James O'Shea scored Kerry's goal six minutes from the end of a one sided game.

In Cork the home side capitalised on the continuous supply of ball they received from their mid fielders and but for some erratic finishing, they could easily have doubled the half time scoreline of 0-12 to 0-1.

Cork picked up where they left off immediately on the resumption and stretched their lead with a point from Mark O'Sullivan before Waterford regrouped and made their first impression on the game with a 36th minute goal from corner forward Stephen Cunningham.
