Oliver Bierhoff will captain Germany against Finland today on his international comeback.
The Monaco striker looked to have reached the end of his international career, with coach Rudi Voller preferring Carsten Jancker as a target-man.
But following the 5-1 defeat by England, and with Jancker out through injury, Voller has been stung into making changes.
Voller's assistant, Michael Skibbe, confirmed Bierhoff's role. "Bierhoff will be in charge on the field on Saturday, providing he isn't injured," he said.
Germany must better England's result against Greece to stand any chance of automatic qualification. The teams are on the same points, but Germany's goal difference is six worse than that of England.
Voller is set to dispense with the traditional sweeper system, with Jens Nowotny and Christian Worns lining up at the centre of the defence.
