Is there evidence of a two-tier society emerging on the European Tour? Colin Montgomerie, a five-time winner this season, and Lee Westwood, winner of his last three events on the circuit, are way ahead of the field in the betting for the British Masters at Woburn, starting on Thursday.
Even allowing for their dominance of the tour, it is hard to justify laying money on Monty at 9 to 2 or Westwood at 5 to 1 - and, consequently, better value betting could come in the each-way department.
Here, Ian Woosnam - winner of the event when it was last staged at Woburn in 1994 - looks to be nicely place at 33 to 1. The odds are made more attractive considering that he doesn't have to worry about his form in the run-up to the Ryder Cup (he didn't make the team) and this could be the week that he shows a return to form.
