PATRIK BERGER, buoyed by a brace of goals on his Liverpool debut at the weekend, notched another double as the Czech Republic easily disposed of Malta in a World Cup group six qualifier in Teplice yesterday.

Liverpool's £3 million signing, whose two goals as a substitute on Sunday contributed a 3-0 win at Leicester, struck with a 12th minute free kick and 62nd minute penalty to help the Euro `96 runners- up to an easy win. Berger also set up French-based striker Vladimir Smicer for the fifth goal. Veteran Lubos Kubik, midfielder Pavel Nedved and substitute Martin Frydek scored the other Czech goals., . Romania, who are in the Republic of Ireland's World Cup qualifying group, were beaten 2-1 by the United Arab Emirates in an international friendly in Bucharest yesterday.
