SOUTH AFRICA will be represented by a strong Hollander team, led by Gary Beneke, in the FBD Milk Ras next month. Beneke has won all the top events in South Africa, including the Rapport Tour, and he raced as a professional up to last year with teams in Belgium and Germany. As winner of five races in the first two months of the season, Beneke will be expected to challenge for overall honours.
Last year the South Africans failed to make any impression and their only finishers were 60th and 65th. However, Beneke will have support this time from 21 year old Mervyn Dinkelman, who took the king of the mountains award in last year's Tour of Mauritius, Jacques Fullard, who was third in the South African championship for the last two years, and Damian Booth, a member of the South African team in the Tour of Malaysia.
The Ras starts in Dublin on Saturday, May 18th.
