Bayern Munich made sure of winning Group C with a 2-1 victory over Rosenborg Trondheim last night.
Bayern, who had already secured a place in the last eight, now have 13 points from five games and will finish top their group whatever the outcome of their last match away to Dynamo Kiev next week.
That will entitle them to play the return leg of their quarter-final tie in Munich.
A free kick from 20 metres by midfielder Mehmet Scholl in the 11th minute and a penalty by Paulo Sergio in the 39th minute gave the home side a 2-0 lead at half-time.
Striker John Carew reduced the deficit for the visitors from a counter-attack in the 64th minute.
Rosenborg stay last in the group with just one point. They were reduced to 10 men just before the final whistle when Bjorn Otto Bragstad was sent off for shouting at the referee.
A jittery Real Madrid were held to a 2-2 draw by Dynamo Kiev at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium last night - a result which left both club's chances of progressing from Group C in the balance.
Real made a bright start, taking the lead after just 14 minutes from the penalty spot after Fernando Morientes was bundled over in the box.
Spanish international Raul converted.
The Spaniards dominated the early exchanges yet almost from nowhere Kiev had the chance to go level, only to spurn it when their penalty shot was saved.
Raul, fouled in the box by Olexandr Holovko, then found himself afflicted by nerves as he missed the third spot kick of the match on 25 minutes.
That proved highly costly for Real as Alexandr Khatskevich levelled for the Ukrainians with a diving header before half-time.
The visitors then went ahead on 56 minutes.
Demetradze hared down the right and a lunging Fernando Hierro only succeeded in turning the ball low past a horrified Casillas.
It fell to Roberto Carlos to save Real with a low, skidding free-kick with 18 minutes remaining.
