BAYERN MUNICH earned a well deserved place in the UEFA Cup final after beating Barcelona 2-1 in a thrilling semi final second leg match in the Non Camp last night. Bayern took the tie 43 on aggregate after drawing the first leg 22ff _

Bayern's opponents in the final will be Bordeaux who moved into the last stretch of a marathon which started in the Inter Toto Cup last June when they beat Slavia Prague 1-0 last night and 2-0 on aggregate.

It was Bordeaux's 18th match of the season in Europe, including the Inter Toto fixtures which gained them entry into the competition. Their Dutch midfielder, Richard Witschge, said reaching the final was the end of a long road. "In all, we've beaten 11 teams to get this far. I would never have thought that possible," he said.

Bayern were led to victory by Mehmet Scholl, who set up his side's first goal after tormenting Johan Cruyff's team down the left in the first half and then switching wings to create havoc down the right.

Overlapping full back Markus Babbel, whose shocking back pass in the first leg led to Barcelona's second goal, made amends for that mistake by putting Bayern ahead in the 40th minute and the Germans went further ahead seven minutes from time when Marcel Witezcek made it 2-0.

Substitute Ivan de la Pena scored a consolation goal for Barcelona two minutes from time as his side tried desperately to force extra time.

Meanwhile, Bordeaux's winner was scored by striker Didier Tholot a minute after the interval and the French club were rarely troubled by the Czechs.

Bordeaux's outstanding player was striker Christopher Dugarry who kept the Slavia defence constantly stretched with his brilliant first time flicks and runs down both flanks.

The only disappointment for Bordeaux was the yellow card for Dugarry which means he will be suspended for the first leg of the final, in Bayern. Zidane will also miss the final, having been booked against Slavia.

Zidane was sent off on August 22nd against Karlsruhe in the preliminary round and served a suspension. Even though had he received no other yellow card since, UEFA have stated players will be suspended automatically for one game if they receive in further booking.
