GRAHAM BARRETT is focused on helping Shamrock Rovers win the league. Whether he gets a new contract at Tallaght Stadium for next year will take care of itself.
The former Republic of Ireland international striker joined his home town club in August on a part-time, short-term deal after being released by Scottish side St Johnstone.
“Shamrock Rovers is a very big club,” said the 28-year-old, who scored twice in seven senior international appearances. “It would take something really big for me to change my mind and move. In my mind, I want to stay home and wait and see what happens.”
Strengthening a knee which has been operated on several times during his injury-plagued career will also determine Barrett’s future with Rovers.
“The manager has been very supportive with the way I have to rehab the knee,“ explained Barrett.
“I believe that come January or next pre-season, I think I can reach another level. But that is only going to come with game time and with a proper rehab programme..”
Barrett returns to the squad for the home match with relegation-threatened Drogheda United as leaders Rovers hope to extend their unbeaten league run to 22 games. Left-back Ian Bermingham also returns, though there are doubts about the availability of defender Pat Flynn (flu), winger Paddy Kavanagh (hamstring) and top scorer Gary Twigg (thigh).
Striker Robbie Martin is available for Drogheda. Right back Scott Gibb picked up a knock on duty with Northern Ireland under-21s but is expected to be fit.
