IVORY REEF and Rupestrian, successful in handicaps at Killarney last Tuesday, meet under similar penalties in the Drumree Handicap at Navan today. Jim Bolger, whose charges are in cracking form this season, had earlier won a handicap with Ivory Reef at Limerick and the five year old, raced only once last year, will be backed to complete his hat trick.
A fit Bright Lake might be hard to beat. Pat Flynn's charge won over this course and distance in October and next time out ran the consistent Monica's Choice to a head in a 29 runner seven furlong handicap at the Curragh. Firm ground seems to suit this improving four year old filly and the concession of nearly a stone could be beyond Ivory Reef and Rupestian. Nonetheless, fitness could be the crucial factor and Ivory Reef may have the edge.
Pat Flynn has prospects of a double with Tommy Paud in the Donoghmore Handicap Hurdle. The selection just failed to give a stone to Taits Clock at Limerick last time out but had earlier beaten Final Project at Listowel. Annfield Lady and Derby Haven, who ran well in a maiden hurdle over this course, are taken as the dangers.
The evergreen Bold Flyer attempts to win the Carlow Cross Handicap Chase for the second year running. Anne Collen's bold jumping, front running 13 year old has not been out since, though he has the beating of Fambo Lad. The latter recently finished third behind Kingston Way over this course and distance with Vital Trix, runner up to Royal Mountbrowne at Fairyhouse, relegated to fourth place. The lightly raced Bold Flyer may win again.
A close second behind Nevada at Tipperary recently the Jim Bolger trained Silvestrini may prove too good for Daffodil Dale in the Balreask Maiden. The latter was beaten by Bolger two year old at Leopardstown and over this course.
Vice President had decent form in her first three outings last season but then appeared to lose her way. I take him to sandwich a Bolger trained treble in the Fillies Maiden.
