LAST night was not one for hockey purists. In a Leinster Senior League match at Tallaght that was as fluctuating as the wind, Avoca were fortunate to take both points from Glenanne to regain top spot from Three Rock Rovers.
Paul Fitzpatrick stormed through to create an early goal by Roly O'Donoghue for GIenanne but Avoca remained sufficiently composed to equalise through Nigel Kingston soon after the interval. They then took the lead with Kingston finishing off a break by Enda Gallanagh.
Although both Fitzpatrick and goalkeeper Ian Clarke received temporary suspensions, Glenanne managed to remain in contention - until Gallanagh broke clear again. He was adjudged to have been fouled at the top of the circle, leaving Trevor Dagg to convert the penalty stroke.
Still Glenanne fought to the end.Stephen Butler reduced the margin getting a short corner missile out of Stephen Kinsella's reach. But Kinsella valuably kept out the last shot of the game from Fitzpatrick.
. Romania's athletics federation said yesterday it had banned European cross country champion Iulia Negura for two years for failing a doping test last November.
