Despite an enthralling late afternoon fight-back at Beechgrove on Saturday Ireland failed to stop Australia A complete a 4-0 One-day series win.

Set to score 129 to win the tourists lost four wickets for just two runs in mid innings leaving them on 47 for five. Matt Dwyer Ireland's left arm spinner was responsible taking three wickets for three runs in 24 balls with the only scoring shot, a three, off his first ball. Earlier fellow spinner Kyle McCallan had removed openers Matthew Hayden 16 and Dene Hills 26.

The elation was short-lived as Bernard Julian cracked nine boundaries in his unbeaten 53 of 60 balls and with help from Michael Hussey 16 not out in a 52 run seven wicket stand the Australians won through by four wickets. Andy Bichel once again caused the early breakthrough bowling McCallan and Stephen Smyth of successive balls at 16.

Overseas professional Steve Waugh took 75 balls over his 36 runs as wickets continued to fall with spinner Brad Young claiming four for 20 in his seven overs spell. A precious 31 run seven wicket stand by Eddie Joyce 20 and Gordon Cooke 11 not out gave the total a much needed boost to finish on 128.
