Amokachi may leave

EVERTON are stalling on a bid from Turkish champions Fenerbahce for their Nigerian international striker Daniel Amokachi.

EVERTON are stalling on a bid from Turkish champions Fenerbahce for their Nigerian international striker Daniel Amokachi.

The Goodison club are willing to let the 1994 World Cup star go, but the Istanbul outfit's offer is believed to be well below a reported £1.6 million.

"We have had a contact from Fenerbahce and the clubs are talking at chairman level but there is a massive gap between our valuations at present," Everton's manager Joe Royle said. Royle also said Swedish international Anders Limpar's proposed move to Marseille appeared to have broken down.

Amokachi (23), who was bought for £3 million from FC Bruges two years ago and scored a hat trick in the 1995 FA Cup semi final victory over Tottenham, made 32 appearances last term, scoring eight goals.

Royle is leaving the door open for him on Merseyside, adding. "There is also Daniel's side to consider. I thought he did a lot better for us last season. The only problem was that he doesn't consider himself to be an out and out goal scorer when that is what we needed."
