Light winds on Perth's Swan River delayed the start of racing in the 49er yachting world championship yesterday but the conditions seemed to suit American Morgan Larson, who won two races when they finally got under way.

New Zealand pair Phil Airey and Grant Griffiths also looked good and finished second behind Larson in both their first two heats of the second day of competition.

Otherwise fortunes fluctuated. French pair Marc Audineau and Julian Farnarier failed to finish their first heat and won their second.
