Inter Milan's Argentine midfielder Mattias Almeyda suffered a broken leg during his team's 3-0 win over Empoli in Serie A on yesterday. The Argentinian international was carried off on a stretcher in the 19th minute after a challenge from Ighli Vannucchi.
Inter said on their official website that former Lazio and Parma midfielder Almeyda had suffered a "fracture to the fibula bone of his right leg". Almeyda underwent tests and was treated for his injury at hospital in Pavia.
Inter said further tests in the coming days would determine how long Almeyda would need to recover from the injury.
However, the break means it is highly unlikely that Almeyda will be part of Inter's second phase Champions League matches.
