David Wachman saddled his first juvenile success of the current campaign at Cork yesterday when Corrientes landed the EBF Maiden in the hands of Eddie Ahern.
Ahern, who was recording his 95th victory and thus losing his 3 lb claim, produced the daughter of Night Shift with a smooth effort to lead inside the final furlong before comfortably holding Rayelteen by a neck.
"She's a very nice filly and she'll improve a lot for that. She'll run again in the listed Debutante Stakes at Leopards town on Sunday August 23rd," said Wachman.
Gordon Elliott, who injured his wrist in a fall at the venue on Sunday, missed a winning ride on She's Our Mare in the featured Heineken Handicap Hurdle. David Casey partnered Tony Martin's mare to achieve a new career milestone. He notch up his 100th career success in the saddle when the pair arrived with a wet sail on the run down to the last before heading Honey Trader on the run-in. Casey went on to ride his second winner of the flat, and a first of the season for Willie Mullins, when he swept Really Chuffed to lead at the two-furlong pole in the Claiming Race.
