The oldest competitor in any Olympic games was Lorna Johnstone who competed in the 1972 Dressage event at the age of 70 years and five days while the youngest competitor was placed third in the 1896 team parallel bars event. Dimitrious Loundrous of Greece was 10 years 218 days old. Unfortunately, for the budding gymnast third place back then actually meant last. The youngest known medalist, who actually finished ahead of someone else was Luigina Giavotta of Italy, who won the silver medal in women's team gymnastics in 1928. She was 11 years and 302 days.
