DIT 0-14 Tralee IT 0-4:THE EAGERLY anticipated Sigerson Cup quarter-final clash between Tralee IT and DIT failed to catch fire as the Dublin side cruised into the semi-finals, hardly breaking sweat in this mismatch played at the Tralee campus in Dromtacker yesterday afternoon.
The Dublin College dominated from the outset. They ruled at midfield, John Coughlan (Dublin) and Ross Galvin (Kildare) providing quality ball to their free-flowing forward line, where their three intercounty players, Dublin's Mark Vaughan, Mayo's Aidan Kilcoyne and Meath's Cian Ward, all picked off excellent points.
Paddy Curran gave Tralee the lead from a free in the opening minute but that was as good as it got for the home side.
Aidan Kilcoyne soon levelled from play and then Vaughan put DIT ahead in the seventh minute with a point from a free.
Tralee enjoyed an equal share of possession at this stage but they shot five wides in the opening quarter and Paddy Curran had a chance of a goal blocked.
Inexorably, DIT took over. During the final 10 minutes of the half Vaughan kicked two points (one from play) and their impressive full back Eoin Naughton kicked another as they led 0-6 to 0-2 at half-time.
The second half was even more one-sided as DIT camped in the Tralee half and the home side could manage only two attacks in the third quarter, with Paddy Curran pointing from a 43rd-minute free.
DIT added a succession of points, Kilcoyne scoring 0-3, Vaughan taking 0-2 from frees and Cian Ward posting a fine effort from play as the visitors pulled 0-12 to 0-3 clear by the end of the third quarter.
The final quarter was academic as DIT, now in complete control, strolled through to the semi-finals in Carlow.
