Dublin overcame the handicap of having Paul Bealin sent off five minutes after the re-start to secure a comfortable victory over Mick O'Dwyer's men in this replay. Bealin was dismissed for a rugby tackle on Declan Kerrigan, having earlier been booked.

It was the only cloud on a very bright day for Dublin football. There was no comparison, quality-wise, to the football they played in the drawn game. Mick Galvin was recalled at full forward and gave Davy Dalton a torrid time. Galvin was fouled on 48 minutes earning a penalty which Charlie Redmond converted: Redmond would score 1-4.

The Erin's Isle man's tally was eclipsed by Kildare's Niall Buckley (1-6) who proved Kildare's best player by far. He managed all bar three points of Kildare's total. In the end the five-point winning margin did not adequately reflect Dublin's superiority.
