Sir, - While the current tribunal on payments to politicians has focused on the funds Charlie Haughey received from the private sector, it may be worth remembering that Mr Haughey is still in receipt of substantial public funds through the various state pensions that he holds for his time as Taoiseach, in various Ministries and as a TD.
Considering the controversy surrounding Mr Haughey's finances, should he not (to use his own phrase) "step aside" from receipt of such monies at least until the final report of the tribunal is completed? - Yours, etc., BARRY O'LEARY,
