Sir, - When Charlie McCreevy insists on lecturing the rest of Europe on how he knows best on all matters relating to economics, he should remember that our new-found wealth is built on many years of funding from our European partners. Without this subvention, paid for by taxpayers throughout Europe, we would not now be in a position to offer low taxes. He should also realise that his recent claims of victimisation by the European Commission could foster anti-European sentiments within Ireland. (Perhaps this is what he intends.) A little more humility, rather than the behaviour you would associate with a spoilt, ungrateful child, would foster a better image abroad. - Yours, etc.,
