Madam, – I deplore the incessant vuvuzela, not because of its boring claxon monotone which must do wonders for Solpadeine, but because it drowns out the chanting of the crowd. I expected exuberant crowds, stirring rhythms and colourful dancing movements. Instead I have hardly seen the crowd, and have seen no close-ups of emotional faces and no extreme displays of partisan devotion.
Where are the Mexican waves, the pub identifications and the joke banners? Surely there was one Irish fan with a good wish for Thierry? And where is our John 3:7 friend? Has someone spoiled the party? – Yours, etc,
Madam, – The only reason that the South African authorities have not banned the infernal vuvuzela is that all pleas must literally have fallen on deaf ears.
If I wanted to listen to the vuvuzela, I’d stick my head in a beehive.
I would be someone who would sit and watch most World Cup matches; for this tournament I will restrict myself to the highlight shows. I’d say the viewing numbers will be drastically down and the advertisers will not be happy. – Yours, etc,
