Sir, - As the author of the report Putting the Unemployed: Back To Work, I am saddened that ICTU seeks to ridicule the recommendations by taking one technical phrase i.e. "social misfit" and injecting it with an amount of emotional baggage which was not intended nor deserved. The ICTU played politics with the report, in order to distract from the core elements and the policy solutions proposed.
If substituting the word "socially deprived" for "social misfits" allows for proper debate on the issues raised then, I am more than happy to comply. However, I cannot apologise for an intended insult where no intention existed. - Yours, etc.,
