Sir, - Surely this spell of wonderful, still, winter weather shows the folly of putting too many of our energy eggs in the wind-turbine lobby's basket. The conversion of the Moneypoint power station to gas would do more for our Kyoto obligations than the erection of a forest of turbines.
A slavish acceptance of the necessity and efficacy of these totems to "greenery" has led to the dreadful depredation that has befallen the Welsh hill landscape in recent years. We should beware of emulating it in our own precious upland wilderness areas. - Yours, etc.,
Nicholas Prins, Culleenamore, Strandhill, Co Sligo.
