Wicklow Development Plans

Sir, - Cllr Deirdre De Burca (January 5th) is wrong again

Sir, - Cllr Deirdre De Burca (January 5th) is wrong again. She wrongly quotes the council minutes as stating that my objection to the Kilcoole Draft Development Plan "rested solely" on the poor rail service. My objections also included the lack of sports facilities and other infrastructure. Furthermore the population growth should be spread over 15 years instead of crammed into 5 years. Indeed the minutes show that I objected to more points that she did. Possibly my views on this issue are too "green" for the Green Party, so it chooses to ignore the facts.

Developing village plans is a matter of balancing many objectives, which can be in conflict with each other. In particular the need to provide housing for our young people can clash with the need to protect our environment. - Yours, etc.,

Derek Mitchell, Member Wicklow County Council (FG), Greystones, Co Wicklow.
