Sir, - I note that the Minister for Justice, Mr O'Donoghue has announced plans to refurbish the men's jail at the Mountjoy complex. Could it be, in the light of continuing revelations in the financial world, that he is expecting an influx of criminals of the middle-class, white-collar variety? These people would of course expect more upmarket conditions during their incarceration than those reserved for your common or garden Mountjoy inmate.
Perhaps we are at last about to witness some effect given to the Minister's "zero tolerance" rhetoric. It is to be hoped that Mr O'Donoghue will be instructing the architects not to include any revolving doors in his refurbishment plans. - Yours, etc.,
P.J. McDermott, Sheeaune, Westport.
