Madam, – Reading Sarah Geraghty’s reflective diary on her time as an intern in Washington DC (Magazine, July 24th), I felt I could have written it myself. The dilemma of working for free is a major question for all graduates, where the balance of opportunity and exploitation walk a very thin line. I feel that the idea of internships is slowly and worryingly creeping into the Irish workplace. Congratulations to Ms Geraghty on her thoughtful piece on behalf of the many graduates and interns who are trying to make it into that elusive circle of actually getting paid for work.
