Madam, - I was very interested in Ailbhe Logan's letter of November 12th. We have lots of trees and bushes in our garden and we feed the birds all winter.

We usually see bullfinches, goldfinches, greenfinches, goldcrests, blackbirds, thrushes, redwings, magpies, robins, wood pigeons, collared doves, crows, jackdaws (who nest in our chimney), blue tits, wrens and other birds, but we very seldom see a sparrow now. We used to see dozens of them.

Another bird which has almost completely disappeared here is the starling. Maybe an expert who reads this could explain what has happened. - Yours, etc.,
