Madam, – It was heartening to see on a late evening walk on Bettystown beach last Sunday (May 23rd) that in these changeable days one notable Irish tradition is being maintained.
Rubbish of every imaginable variety festooned the sand – bottles, cans, food wrappers, barbecue trays, nappies. – and whatever you’re having yourself. At the end of a great day out at a wonderful amenity, many just could not be bothered to bag up their refuse and dispose of it properly.
Every sunny weekend over the summer produces the same result. Sure ’tis part of what we are.
– Yours, etc,
