Madam, – Terry Pattison (June 8th) is correct to say that the Irish are still being ripped off, even in little ways that might seem insidious. I noticed this at Dublin airport in the past few weeks. Readying myself for the security check-in, I spotted a dispenser from which passengers can purchase clear plastic bags to use for their toiletries.
You must purchase two plastic bags at a time, yet are limited to using only one bag for your toiletries. The charge for this? €1. The charge for clear plastic bags in other airports I’ve been to recently? No charge, they are provided free to passengers as they queue. – Yours, etc,
Madam, – Why do Irish people come back from holidays – particularly from Spain or Portugal – and complain about the prices they pay for goods at home compared with the prices they pay while away?
They don’t compare their own salary to a Spanish or Portuguese person and complain that they are paid too much. They all look at prices abroad and say that’s cheaper than at “rip-off home”, but is it cheap for the locals?
Maybe they should ask the person cleaning their room whether the goods in the local shops are cheap? – Yours, etc,
