A chara, - I was amused to read the opinions of Mr Norman Lee (January 20th). Mr Lee claims that "anyone with a real interest in the Irish language would surely be listening to an Irish language station".
I would suggest to Mr Lee to try to imagine all streets/roads be made one way and have no exits from them. This, I fear, is the direction in which he would have Irish stations go.
Mr Lee tries to portray the person who has an interest in watching an Irish language programme as something odd, a kind of freak and an expense to the State. This is a ploy often employed by detractors of the Irish language in the national media, education system, etc.
I would recommend to Mr Lee, when he is cutting out his own letter for posterity, that he read An Irishwoman's Diary by Catherine Foley on the same day. He might see an open minded opinion on matters similar. Go n-eiri gach adh le TnaG agus RnaG agus gura fada buan sibh. - Is mise le meas,
