Madam, - Those (and they are legion) who still believe that Washington's presence in the world is benign might ponder the following.

Since the presidency of Woodrow Wilson the avowed aim of the US administration, often reiterated, has been global domination in the interests, not of mankind, but of American business. This has entailed the savage torture and slaughter of millions and there is no sign of a change of heart.

In the light of this dismal scenario, the best hope for a more humane world seems to lie in the growing wave of global public opinion against US aggrandisement which, with luck, may rise up and drown the dragon. - Yours, etc.,
