A Jesuit put a girl’s name on me, aged nine, a good-looking boy with prefect manners. The outcome was seven years of tormenting by hundreds of boys. In class, abuse was shouted.

I developed ulcers as a teenager, and was ordered bed rest. Never encouraged, rather, “Who helped you?” when I wrote a good essay. Repression, pain and fear.

The chaplin advised my parents to remove me, at a crucial age of 16. I never reached university and thus my entire life has been affected.

Recently, I approached the head of the order in Ireland, who listened and said very little.

He did not say “sorry”. I am still waiting for an official apology/ reparation, after sending much material to prove my miserable experience in their “care”. – Yours, etc,
