Sir, - Please let me reiterate, calmly, succinctly:-
If you decide to leave a position, be it your job, or membership of a credit union, club, or society, you no longer continue to have a say in the running of the organisation in question, whether through the trade union, board of managers, AGM, whatever. Why should a country be any different?
It is inadvisable in the extreme to give a vote to those who will not be affected by its outcome. Picture the following scenario:- "I'm an expat Cambodian. I think that Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge have done a wonderful job in making my country self sufficient. Of course I'll vote for them."
Penultimately, our Swissophile friend appears to be suggesting that the secret of world peace and a healthy economy is to deny women the vote I think there may be a few dissenters here - c'mon, Mna na hEireann, let's be hearing from you and finally to address the gentleman who flattered me by imitation, may I suggest that the best way to solve a problem is not to run away from it. - Yours, etc.
