A chara, – Loyalists protested at Belfast city council’s decision not to fly the British flag every day of the year over Belfast City Hall (Home News, December 4th). As an Irishman I would like to protest at the fact that the Irish flag doesn’t fly beside it on common holidays (eg St Patrick’s day) and on its own on exclusively Irish holidays (eg Easter Monday).

Not doing so is a breach of the Belfast Agreement which promised inclusivity and equal respect for both traditions in the North. Furthermore, given that Belfast is a majority nationalist city, more people owe their allegiance to the Tricolour than to the British flag. – Is mise,
