Sir, – While the misinformed reel in shock at the “Not Guilty” verdict in Mauritius (Front page, July 13th), some of us breathe a sigh of relief. Yes, the deceased’s family has left the trial without closure, but would a wrongful conviction have made them feel any better?
The jury, by avoiding the same pressures that the Mauritian police gave in to, should be commended rather than criticised. The Birmingham Six and the Guildford Four would have welcomed such principle. – Yours, etc,
