Sir, - I note from the Guardian that the chief executive of Alliance & Leicester building society is currently paid approximately IR£1 million a year. That is roughly four times the average payment (I avoid the word earnings) of his Bank of Ireland counterparts. Does anyone believe that "underpaid" Bank of Ireland executives will tolerate such "injustice"?
This sense of injustice might well result in a demand that Mr White's payment be reduced to a less obscene figure. Maybe I'm only a nasty, left-wing begrudger but I suspect the movement will be in the opposite direction! - Yours, etc., Senator Brendan Ryan,
