Madam,  – For three years Eamon Gilmore and the Labour Party have assiduously avoided any clear policy positions, preferring to substitute anger and outrage in place of any credible alternative in these very difficult times.

Finally it seems to have fallen to Jack O’Connor ( December 2nd) to lift the Labour mask. It now seems, as I feared, a vote for Labour in the upcoming election is in fact a vote for the trade union movement. Mr O’Connor may have done the state some service in his astonishing letter. Unfortunately in the same missive he did not find time to explain the logic (if one exists) of the benchmarking processes. –   Is mise,
