Unequal LPT

Sir, – Today, having personally benefitted from the maximum 15 per cent reduction on Local Property Tax (LPT) afforded by the richest borough in the country, I had to pay the LPT for my late-departed brother, as I am trying to sell his house in keeping with my role as executor of his estate.

He lived in a rural idyll, with few local benefits such as public libraries, a public swimming pool or local streetsweeping services. So his local council applied a 10 per cent uplift to his LPT. Somehow, I fail to comprehend the logic. Or perhaps they hope to dig a few pools, so the locals can swim happily?

– Yours, etc,

PATRICK PLUNKETT,
