Sir, - We are writing in relation to an article published in Education and Living (November 9th). As two Transition Year students we were deeply insulted by comments made by Ms Una Clifford concerning work experience during fourth year. Ms Clifford implied that all Transition Year students are immature and are out to doss for the week. She also implied that work experience is menial and has no significance for the students.
Although we may not have decided on a definite career path, taking this week will enable us to explore job opportunities and to make decisions concerning our future education. It is a vital part of Transition Year which is taken seriously by the majority of the students. It also opens our eyes to the world of work and the many opportunities which are out there.
We are sure that we do not, speak for ourselves alone but for the majority of Transition Year students. - Yours, etc.,
