Madam, – More than a fifth of Irish people are considering moving abroad to secure better job prospects, according a Eurobarometer survey on labour mobility (Business, July 15th).

I’m not sure about in Ireland, but in the US we have a saying: “It’s always greener on the other side of the fence”. Even as I read Eoin Burke-Kennedy’s report I was thinking, “I’d rather live in Ireland. A lot!” I’m second-generation Italian-American on one side of my family; fourth-generation in US on my Irish side. I no longer see the US as the land of opportunity as my ancestors did.

I wonder if there’s anyone in Ireland who would swap their life in Ireland with mine in the US? – Yours, etc,
