Tracker ‘compensation’

Sir, – Like 4,000 other AIB tracker customers belatedly acknowledged last December, I have just received a letter and cheque from the bank claiming that I “did not suffer any financial detriment” but nonetheless offering me €1,000 as “compensation”. Given the meaning of “compensation” – money awarded to someone in recognition of loss, suffering, or injury – can AIB (or the Central Bank) please explain how it is possible for me to be compensated when I have allegedly suffered no detriment? – Yours, etc,

GARETH MURPHY,

Inchicore,
