Sir, Adrian Sinclair (January 31st) made a very cogent point concerning the parsimony of this Government with respect to the celebration of the new millennium, by spending a mere 100,000 on an underwater clock object by O'Connell Bridge (as reported in this paper on January 26th). He continues by inviting debate on further projects in a like vein.
May I suggest a similar time piece to the one to which he refers, in an equally bizarre location (we'll think of somewhere), but zeroing precisely when it should, that is, one year after the original article, on December 31st, 2000? Yours, etc., Castle Avenue, Clontarf, Dublin 3.
